Ok, so I had a great idea… I was going to declutter every room in the house, and get rid of the junk.
I was going to sell my good quality tat, chuck out anything broken, donate stuff to charity, all in the name of simple living.
WRONG!
So far, I’ve managed to put 20 items on eBay, donated nothing, and could not bare to part with my hole filled old cardigan or my yellow bag with the broken zip.
Why? Because I think I lack strategy and will power.
Instead of starting in one room, I found stuff from all over the place to put on eBay. And as for my cardigan and bag… Well, those things tell a story.
Really, it’s just stuff… Broken old stuff.
That old cardigan could get a few more years use out of it, and gain a few more holes. The old yellow bag, well it’s fine if I don’t need to zip it up.
I wouldn’t be seen out wearing either of them, yet they live in my home. If my house was burning down and I had to grab a few items to take with me, I’d let them burn.
But here I am… Surrounded by these 2 things.
Neither of them have made it to the bin.
I think if you sell anything on-line, you have to see first how much you can get for it and the fees involved, but more important how much of your time it will take. I had a yard sale recently and made around $200. It can be fun and anything left over went straight to GW. Did I get back what I spent? No, but I met some of my neighbors, and cleared alot of clutter. So great to see some open space again before it gets really hot weather and I really don’t want to deal with it. Best wishes and God Bless.
Hello, and thanks for the comment. I agree with what you said. It can be time consuming, putting all the stuff on eBay. I’ve got about 45 items on there so far – not looking forward to getting them all packaged up for posting.
It’s way too cold for a yard sale at the moment – I’m going to wait until summer and then do one.
Well done for selling your stuff and raising $200
LOL don’t worry. It gets easier. When I first started I could barely part with anything. You don’t have to do it all at once. I’ve been working at it since the very beginning of the year. Every time more and more goes out. It is so much less work to care for less stuff. That is a huge pay off. More time for me instead of taking care of something I don’t even need or really want.
Thanks for the advice. I’ve started on the bedroom, and I can’t believe how much stuff I’ve collected over the years.
I’ve got rid of the yellow bag… It’s in the bin… and I’m still tempted to take it out again lol
I have gotten rid of a TON of stuff. The best part is, I can’t even remember more than about 2 items. That tells me all I needed to know.
Wow! Well done – Thanks for letting me know.
I actually just wrote a post on sentiment, and how hard it is to part with sentimental possessions. I feel your pain! The important thing to remember is that it doesn’t matter how much progress you make, as long as you keep moving forward. Best of luck!
Thanks for the comment. I am making progress and I’ll add another blog post shortly.
